Since 2014, I have been working in the lighting industry fine tuning my craft. Since 2016, I have been continuously designing lighting for venues of various sizes and scopes, ranging from seating capacities anywhere to 100 to 2500. I am currently attending the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music pursuing a B.F.A. in Lighting Design and Technology.
Effective lighting design has the ability to enhance any production and progress the storytelling of a script. Lighting can control what the audience sees and does not see. Lighting can influence how the audience feels and sees certain events or characters. Lighting can inform the audience clearly but subtly, giving clarity to the story. Effective lighting design can take a production to the next level and raise the production value of any event or performance.
I entered into this career as a lighting designer as it enables me to be creative in ways that are unlike any other. I can form and fine tune how an audience experiences and perceives a production. It allows me to collaborate with a director and other designers to give a production a direction and enhance the deeper meaning of the show in subtle and artistic ways, as well as in some not so subtle ways. It provides me with a sense of creative satisfaction that is unique to a career in the arts.
